Pumped Up!

We're just over three weeks away from "Dialogue 08" and I am praying for a good crowd and a great time of talking about the Church. I just got back from a one-day intensive conference on missions at Granger Church in Indiana. It is so cool to spend the day with other folks who are fired up about Jesus and His church. My theme for 2008 is "we can do better" and that includes missions & evangelism. Granger has given us some good insights & ideas for reaching out. I love the fact that they like to share ideas, thoughts & resources. It's all about the Kingdom. That's the same reason that we are doing "Dialogue 08". We want to get like-minded churches together to talk/chat/dialogue about exciting new ways to reach people for Jesus. Plan on being at "Dialogue 08" on March 6th here at the Ridge. Dialogue 08 is just 36 days away!

I am getting stoked about this year's "Dialogue 08" event. Any time you can get a group of creative pastors & church planters together it is awesome!

Like last year's event we will focus on facilitating conversations with those in attendance. Topics will include how to attract new folks to your church each week, how to assimilate those new people, how to grow your church even in a difficult economy, plus a whole lot more. "Dialogue 08" is a conference FOR church planters BY church planters. Plan on being with us for this free, day-long event. Continental breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and we will end our day at 6 p.m.

Two special guests will be with us at "Dialogue 08" - new church planter Kevin Jamison from the Oaks in Middletown, Ohio and Earl Rhynes of the volunteer construction group "Builders for Christ".

I'm praying for this year's event which is to be held on March 6th, 2008 at our in Brookville, Ohio.

To get more information you can go to www.dialogue08.ridge.tv or to register for this Free Event email me at darrel.schick@gmail.com

Dialogue 08 set for March 6, 2008

A quick note to all church planter/pastors...the "New Church Cooperative" has set the date for this winter's get-together.

"Dialogue 08" is a one-day conference set for March 6th at Sycamore Ridge Community Church in Brookville, Ohio. There is no cost for this conference. We will begin with registration and a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. Lunch will be "on your own" and we will finish up at 6 p.m.

Our format will be similar to last year with lots of interaction between church planters and pastors as well as interested "lay people". We will have a special speaker this year, his name is Kevin Jamison and he is the pastor/planter for the Oaks Community Church in Middletown, Ohio. We will also have a representative here from the "Builders for Christ" organization that mobilizes volunteers to build facilities for churches.

Please spread the word to all who you think may be interested. Watch this space for more information as we get closer to the date.

If you want to be on our email list, please email me at darrelbob-at-yahoo.com

So what - a New Year

Happy New Year fellow church planters and pastors! I hope you got at least a little bit of rest & relaxation during the Christmas Season.

Now that we are in 2008 I got to thinking "what's the big deal, anyway?" Sure it's January. Sure it's a New Year...it's 2008. But what does that mean to me as a pastor/planter?

Well, even though it is just another day in many ways...a New Year at least gives us the chance to psychologically begin with a clean slate. And for church planters and pastors we need psychological help!

Seriously, I would encourage you to do what I am trying to do on this cold January day. Take a few minutes to look back at 2007 and then plan ahead for 2008 by trying to avoid last year's mistakes.

May God bless you as you seek His leadership in your all-important Kingdom-building adventures in 2008.

Check out Granger Film Festival

Just saw that the Granger Film Festival finalists and winners are now on line for all to see. Check it out at www.wiredchurches.com and click on "Innovate '07".

One of the Ridge's videos made the cut. The content is good...and fun...but it was done before we had a decent camera. Check out "Does my new armor suit me?" and let me know your thoughts.

Excellent Granger Conference

This time last week I was finishing up at the "Innovate" Conference at Granger Community Church in Granger, Indiana. I came away from the two-day event feeling it was one of the very best conferences I've ever attended. I have taken the last week trying to figure out why.

There are a number of reasons...and I will try to make sense of them for you.

Top-notch quality from beginning to end. Granger makes it easy to register and they send you a pre-conference package that gives you all the info you could need. When you arrive on campus you are greeted by happy, helpful folks that know the real meaning of "guest services". The "Innovate" notebook was incredible from the colorful tattoo-style logo to the information inside to the spacious area left for note-taking. Another small but helpful feature: on the back a "quick look" guide to "what's next". I found myself checking that page often. The "Innovate" t-shirt and temporary tattoo were nice surprises. And I loved the merch stand and the snack tent...and the vendors were all helpful and articulate.

Useful & Practical Information. The speakers were engaging, helpful, and practical. We began Thursday with a general session with Guy Kawasaki who spoke to us about the "art of innovation". Granger Senior Pastor Mark Beeson had two great sessions. Granger's Executive Pastor Tim Stevens hit a homerun during his "director's commentary" as he encouraged us to study the culture so we can speak their language in sharing the gospel. Another Granger staff member Rob Wegner blew me away with his session on how to cut through the noise to communicate the gospel. All the general sessions were excellent as were the breakout sessions I attended. The best breakout of the conference for me was lead by Granger's Jack Magruder. Jack spoke to us about the 7 Mission Metaphors Granger uses to cast vision for outreach. I will share some of the great information I gleaned from this conference in an upcoming entry.

Humble & Helpful Church. What I love best about going to Granger and it was shown over and over again in this conference...there is a real humility and spirit of helpfulness at Granger. I heard more than once that they don't have everything figured out and they just want to help other churches for the Kingdom. That's how all churches should be!

Mark your calendar. If you missed this year's conference...mark it down for next year. "Innovate 2008" will be on September 18-19, 2008.

A terrific conference...I'm already looking forward to next year. More on what I learned and plan to use in our church coming soon.

Random Thoughts on Church Planting, etc.

Some RANDOM thoughts...on things I BELIEVE...

church planting: I believe church planting is the hope of the world especially in the United States where churches are closing their doors every single day.
church planters: I believe church planters are a valuable resource that we must not squander. When you think of all the blood, sweat, tears, resources, time, energy, and money spent to launch a new work - the Body of Christ must do whatever it can to help these church pioneers stay strong and fight the good fight!
new church cooperative: I believe that help is on the way for church plants. The "New Church Cooperative" is one of a growing number of organizations that's purpose is to help new church plants and the men who plant them be succesful (faithful) in God's calling.
think Big: Our God is a Big God...and He calls us to dream Big Dreams for Him. Not for us...but for Him. I believe God still does miracles and that God wants to do His miracles through men and women who trust fully and completely in Him.

Are you guilty, as I am, of not believing God can do all things? If God could do what He did on the day of Pentacost and in the early church in Acts...why can't He do that now? What has changed? Us? or God?
